Senior Adults

We have many things going on and new plans for the future for our Senior Adults. At St. John’s our seniors start in their 50’s and go up from there. We have an active GrandPals team, a Home Ministry Team, a Card Ministry Team, a Mission Team, a Fellowship Team, an Energizers Team, and more plans for the future. We are actively engaged in service to God and the church. We find significance and purpose for our lives as we continue to grow in our discipleship of Jesus Christ. If you are looking for encouragement, purpose, and a place to grow in your faith, this great community of adults has a place for you!
* The GrandPals is a team of adults who love children, and take to heart our baptismal vows when we agree to help in raising and influencing our young. They select an elementary-age child each fall to be a grandpal of, and then they pray for that child every day. They also interact with that child when they see them at church or in the community, and send them a special card on their birthday, Christmas, Valentines, and Easter. They also periodically send them notes of encouragement throughout the school year.
* The Home Ministry is a group of adults who like to visit. They visit in person, or by phone, our home-bound adult members, our ill, and our grieving. They usually take a card, a balloon, or a flower to them when they visit. These special contacts help our members to stay connected, and remember that they are loved.
* The SAM Card Ministry Team get together once a month, usually the first Thursday, and make cards. They sometimes design and color the cards to give the cards a uniqueness all their own. These cards go out to college students when they come in the fall, for the GrandPals group, to the home-bound, the ill, the grieving, the new people to our church, and those whom we have missed seeing in worship.
* Our Mission Team is new to our seniors. We are discovering new ways that seniors can be in ministry beyond our doors. We are partnering with our church mission and outreach team to explore all the possibilities that await us. This is one way we connect our church with the world around us.
* Our Fellowship Team helps in the organization and the planning of our retreats. We have fellowship time with the Energizers and others at our monthly luncheons, but we also like to have retreats that allow us to connect in other ways. Some of our retreats are spiritual in nature, some are for relaxation, and some are just for fun. We also like to take day trips to the movies, to see plays, to experience the art museums, and the list goes on. We are always looking for new ideas and ways to fellowship together.
* The Prayer Team is a group of prayer warriors that meet weekly to pray for those on our prayer lists, and other concerns of the church. This is a strong-hold of our church and faith. You are welcome to join in and become one of the warriors.
* The Energizers are an active senior adult group that regularly meet in the CLB for lunch. The Luncheons are usually on the 3rd Thursdays of each month, but always check the bulletin because we do occasionally change the day. All adults are welcome to join in on this time of fellowship.
* The Wednesday morning Bible Study is a great way to enrich your spiritual life. It meets at 10:45am in the conference room. All ages of adults are welcome to join in with this study.
* With our new Wednesday Night program starting in the fall, we are looking at having other adult Bible Studies to help our adults to become engaged and growing when we cannot always be involved in Sunday School. These studies will be open to all adults that wish to connect and grow.
